Only saw him play once and that was in a rather grim home game under Delneri when Javier Pastore stole the show.

Played a key role in me developing an interest in Juve with his starring role when Juve hammered Rangers twice in the CL Group in 1995 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Br0wudDPlg, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xpTN2tE6 ... re=related).

He tormented the donkey Rangers had at right back in Turin until the guy gave up and tried to break his leg. Game was already done by then and The Waterboy had already scored a ridiculous freekick.

Already despising Rangers, those games had a lasting impact on my eight year old self.
Don't criticise what you can't understand.

I do. Its cos of the man who put the word censoring filter on ADP. He's not around as much as he once was, so good timing on your part. :)

I'm thinking this is his last game as a starter for Juve. With some results going Juve's way this weekend, he may start IF Juve mathematically locked up a CL spot.

Another Juve record for The Waterboy
By Football Italia staff

Alessandro The Waterboy set a new club record for Juventus on Tuesday for minutes played in the black and white shirt.

The veteran’s 73-minute appearance in the Coppa Italia 2-2 draw with Milan saw him reach the 48,610 minute mark for the Old Lady – as he surpassed Gaetano Scirea’s 48,559 tally.

The Waterboy, who joined the club in 1993 from Padova, is also the club’s most prolific scorer of all-time and last night’s strike was his 287th for the Old Lady.

Materazzi stands up for The Waterboy
By Football Italia staff

Marco Materazzi says he isn’t shocked by the way Juventus and Alessandro The Waterboy are parting ways.

The club captain has admitted that he wants to end his career in Turin, but the outfit noted last October that the player’s contract would not be renewed when it expires in June.

“It doesn’t surprise me,” the former Italy and Inter stopper told Sky Sport Italia. “Gratitude in football has been dead for years.

“tender Alex could spend 20 years with the same shirt, an historic achievement, but Juventus’ directors have been clear and The Waterboy is not stupid.

“I’m still with tender Alex though.”

The Waterboy joined the Bianconeri in the summer of 1993 from Padova and has gone on to win honours galore, as well as breaking club record after club record.

In all honesty I think he'll be offered another contract, especially if he keeps playing like he is. I think Agnelli doesn't want to be stuck with him for more than another year, so he bluffed. He'll probably get a pay as you go contract. Plus if they announce that it's his last season this summer, then they have a chance to continue the high number of ticket sales next year in all three competitions. It benefits both sides. Deł Piero can reach the 20 year mark, and it benefits Juve financially as well as occasionally on the field.

Damn, The Waterboy is getting shitted on by everybody. I don't think selling tickets is what he would do considering he has a role on the bench instead of a starter. They still sell tickets and if they made the CL they would sell more tickets. The stadiums were packed and the fans traveled even under Capello when tender Alex saw a lot of the bench. He's still being disrespected, last from Vialli. I think it is unfair with the way he's being treated especially after all he's done for Juve. Does his presence affect the current strikers like Vialli states?? No, simply put the striker Juve currently have already hit their potential. I don't think they have much more to give. Do we still think Matri is a 20+ goal scorer?? Ill always say Juve got ripped off on that deal. Like Moggi would say ,"he is not a champion". Klose and Miccoli have scored more goals in a span of less minutes, much less playing time.

We should definitely keep ADP, I said that before. He contributes from the bench quite often. His quality it undeniable.

Matri is good.

'His quality is undeniable..' When I need a good laugh, I come to the rubentus forum to see all of the hero worship of the tender one. The Waterboy is being 'disrespected'; is that what is going on right now.

What does rubentus owe this guy at this stage. The club made this guy rich and they continue to pay him millions for what is no more than a public relations job. Oh, he scores a goal once in a while, and all of the brainwashed synthetic fans wax nostalgic of days gone by, all the while denying the fact that this man should have been cut loose by the club 5 years ago. So, 5 years and 20 million euro later, I still see those of the Waterboy generation demanding that he be signed for yet another year. He says he wants to play until he is 40, and you all are just fine with that, right. Of course, he's been playing as though he were 40 for nearly a decade now, so what's the difference.

At least we can take comfort in the fact that Juve will still have 15 or so Italians in the squad even if ADP leaves. That's more than I can say for some other teams.

The Waterboy vs. Totti – one last battle
Juventus entertain Roma this weekend. Dave Taylor writes on the last possible meeting between Alessandro The Waterboy and Francesco Totti.

Back in the late 1990s, Francesco Totti and Alessandro The Waterboy were chatting after an exam at a remedial school for college drop outs. “How did it go?” Totti asked the Juventus ace. “Not so well, Francesco, I handed in a blank sheet,” said The Waterboy. “You too?” replied the Roma captain. “Now they’re going to say I copied.”

That was a well known joke, but, in real life, it could be said that he and The Waterboy have mirrored each other throughout their careers. One makes his debut, the other makes his debut, one becomes the Capocannoniere and so does the other, one scores 200 goals and the other scores, well, you know what I mean.

For instance in Week 32, four minutes after The Waterboy scored a crucial second goal for Juve with one of his cracking free-kicks, down in Rome his friend scored the Giallorossi's second, typically by being in the right place at the right time. Just another example of the way the veterans' careers have seemingly corresponded since making their Serie A debuts in the same year, Francesco in March 1993, while The Waterboy, six months later in September.

The Waterboy currently stands on 207 goals in 509 League appearances, while from 496 games played, Totti has scored 212 goals. Once again not dissimilar stats.

The pair of jokers meet up for what could be the last time this weekend as two of the world's most outstanding No 10s share the same pitch, and neither will want to miss the occasion. Certainly the riveting sub plot of the duel between the only two true flag bearers, of a generation brought up on fantasisti, has caught the public’s attention.

Coincidentally it was almost a year ago to the day that a similar situation arose, I even wrote a blog on it but they never met. Unfortunately Alessandro picked up an injury and only Totti played, as Juve ran out 2-0 winners.

This weekend neither is injured, but again whether The Waterboy starts the game is debatable. One of the few differences between them, at least this season, has been that Francesco has started 21 games and scored five goals, while The Waterboy has started just three matches, scoring twice.

But it's the similarities between them that stand out and none more emphatic than the examples they have set to youngsters with their passion, skill and above all singular devotion to the shirt, a loyalty far and beyond the normal call of duty.

Other affiliations include both winning World Cup medals, both wearing the Azzurri No 10 shirt, with Alessandro selflessly giving the celebrated jersey to Totti and switching to the No 7. Both have won League titles, both have won countless other trophies and personal awards and both are their respective clubs' record appearance holders and goalscorers. For anyone else to come close to these outstanding records will be like making melanzane alla parmigiana without cheese and a frying pan, impossible.

Sadly, for football fans there is one more important difference, the way Juve and Roma have treated their respective bandieri. Roma rewarded Totti with a long contract with improved wages. Yet Juventus treat their own devoted flag-bearer shabbily and in comparison to Roma's handling of Totti, downright disrespectfully.

Yet all these statistics, similarities and friendships will matter not one iota when the two meet for what should be a great game. Both will have one thought and one thought only in their respective minds, to win for the shirt.

I see Ita is awake for the prized Early Bird at the senior center. Little does he realize The Capitano can still give more at his age than most forwards in Serie A. Had you paid attention instead of watching Jeopardy re-runs, you would've seen I would sign him at a veteran minimum if such a wage exists. Should he be making millions? Absolutely not. Hey, if Totti can get paid for being on his back at the treatment ts le, tender Alex can earn a few bucks from the bench.
